You are not alone.
“Cancer brain” or “chemo brain” is a common side-effect of cancer and cancer treatment. Chemotherapy, radiation, anesthesia, and hormone therapies can affect cognitive function. As many as 78% of cancer survivors experience these frustrating symptoms.
Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana has a unique and innovative way to help.
How Clarity Works
Cancer Services’ Clarity program is based on the Feuerstein Method, which includes exercises and techniques to encourage “neuroplasticity.” Basically, providing the tools for the brain to build new pathways to access information.
Think of Clarity as “cognitive rehab.” It works similarly to the way physical therapy helps people recover from a physical injury. Just as the body can rebuild muscle tissue, strength, and flexibility with physical exercise, the brain can build new neural connections and renew existing pathways with mental exercise.
During Clarity workshops, participants use new thinking strategies to rehabilitate the brain. Clarity mediators guide participants in exercises and techniques to rebuild and grow new neural pathways.
The workshops are a supportive and low-pressure environment for participants to learn to “think about the way you think.” They help cancer survivors experiencing brain fog develop resilience, confidence, and adaptability in their thinking.
