On February 23, members of the cancer community gathered at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum for the 10th Annual Spring Auction. Our “Game Time” themed Design on Life event resulted in an evening of delicious food, live entertainment and fabulous silent and live auction items.
New this year was the addition of mobile bidding technology which allowed guests to bid via smartphone, text or using a concierge host. Guests scored exciting auction items including a majestic Alaskan cruise, original artwork, spa packages, an amethyst and diamond necklace, autographed memorabilia, custom culinary experiences and more!
The food, by Executive Chef Christopher Zimmerman, was served at action stations and reflected the sports theme. Just a sampling of the evening’s food offerings include a Kentucky Derby station serving bourbon BBQ short rib sliders and apple jalapeno slaw on the side as well as a Derby cheese hat made with a wheel of brie topped with boursin and fresh herbs. A quick trip to Wimbledon featured a variety flavorful tea sandwiches and hot teas. The NFL station offered up some Cajun flavor to compliment the Super Bowl being hosted in New Orleans. Oyster Po Boys with fried green tomatoes were dished up alongside quinoa jambalaya. Along the same theme, bananas foster with vanilla ice cream was flambéed as just one of the mouth-watering desserts.
Most importantly, the event brought together people throughout the Northeast Indiana cancer community to help raise money and awareness for our important mission. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors and volunteers whose support made this occasion such a success! We could not do this important work without your patronage.
We are partnering with The Fort Wayne Derby Girls to host the 5th Annual Bust a Move auction and fundraiser to benefit women with breast cancer in our community on Friday, October 5, 2012, at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
For Bust a Move, local artists, breast cancer survivors, and derby girls volunteer their talents and their bodies to create unique, inspiring cast representations of the female bust and the emotions associated with breast cancer. Local artists modified the casts, using various artistic mediums, to create outstanding works of art. The art pieces will be auctioned at the event.
Join us for the 5th Annual Bust a Move. The event includes food, cocktails, entertainment, and a live auction of truly unique and inspiring works of art – all fashioned from the busts of breast cancer survivors and Derby Girls.
Tickets are available online at eventbrite.com.

The Columbia City High School boy’s basketball team held a fundraiser on Friday, January 27, for prostate cancer awareness. The event was called “Go Blue – Shots Against Cancer.” The team auctioned off the blue basketball jerseys they wore on Friday night with a raffle that featured a bio on each teammate. The money raised is being donated to Whitley County Cancer Care Endowment Fund which is an organization that provides financial support to local non-profits that service people with cancer in Whitley County.
Linda Bewley, our Outreach Coordinator, was at the game giving away blue ribbons and selling blue prostate cancer bracelets. “The event had a lot of community participation and was so much fun,” Bewley said. Bewley was blown away by the community support and the enthusiasm of the basketball team.
On February 25, we will “Journey Around the World” to raise money for our programs to support people with cancer in our community. We invite you to bring your appetite and join us on this special night.
Now in its 9th year, the Design on Life Event is bigger and better than ever before. “Journey Around the World” will feature a wine tasting and a sampling of international cuisine, as well as a silent and live auction. We’ve secured some exciting auction items, including a trip to Hawaii, fine jewelry, stunning artwork, celebrity autographed memorabilia and much more! View our online catalog to catch a sneak peek of auction items up for bid.
This just in! We will host a raffle for your chance to win an iPad 2!
Our host and travel guide for the evening’s events is the lovely and charismatic Barb Richards of WAJI-Magic 95.1 FM. Upon arrival, you will receive your “passport”, which serves as your ticket to bid on amazing auction items. Take home a lavish gift basket knowing your dollars will directly impact the lives of your community neighbors. Proceeds from the event benefit programs supporting individuals in our community who are affected by cancer. Each year Cancer Services helps over 2,300 individuals and their families by providing financial assistance, medical supplies and equipment, and emotional support.
We look forward to seeing you and your entourage at the gate. Bon Voyage!
